Monkey Pox, a virus that causes bulbous cists on the skin, has made the national news as there have been some infections reported in Canada.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Paula Stewart tells Lake 88 that there are no cases in Lanark, Leeds, or Grenville.
Dr. Stewart says its important to remember, this isn’t COVID-19. The information we’re getting is the result of the pandemic making health information more accessible to all when something like this comes up.
That said, if it comes to our region we will be able to take precautions to avoid getting it, like staying at home if you’re feeling sick.
Dr. Stewart says it is passed through very close contact, but if you are concerned and showing symptoms there are steps to take.
