Lanark County heard the 2021 Housing and Homelessness Report Wednesday night.
As of December 31st, the centralized wait list sits at 713, down seven from 2020.
Overall, 52 units saw resident turnover, 19 of which were to other affordable housing units.
1-bedroom properties remain the greatest demand for residents, and there’s a 6-8 year waiting period to secure an affordable unit if you’re on the wait list.
Warden John Fenik said the problem is far from over, but progress has been made over the years.
Councilor Richard Kidd says this issue is one you continue to pound the pavement for when it comes to financing.
In addition, there were 187 identified homeless households in the county last year.
100 in Smiths Falls, 49 in Perth and 38 in Carleton Place.
