Eight more buildings with historical interest to Smiths Falls will be added to the properties of interest list next week.
Tony Humphrey of the Municipal Heritage Committee provided a rundown of each building during Monday’s committee of the whole meeting, including 10 Main Street East.
A key purpose of adding select properties to this list is to delay the review of any proposed demolition for a period up to 60 days, like council did last month with the former Albion Hotel, presently owned by Hydro One, who have expressed interest in demolishing the property.
“We have started a dialogue with Hydro One and are looking forward to further discussions,” Mayor Shawn Pankow told Lake 88 in an email Monday night.
“They are aware of our concerns and have shown an interest in understanding our priorities for this heritage building.”
