Picket lines are up at Canadian National Railway, but if you are in one of our many communities that has trains passing through, you know they’re still running.
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers says 750 signal and communications employees have walked off the job at C-N Rail across the country.
The union confirms the legal strike began Saturday.
A C-N spokesman says the Montreal-based company has implemented what they call an operational contingency plan and is keeping things running.
That’s a stark contrast to the last strike where operators and other key workers were off the job, stopping the trains for days.
C-N says it continues to encourage the union to resolve key negotiating points, which include wages and benefits, through binding arbitration.
