Mississippi Mills Mayor Christa Lowry says the Municipality, like all within Lanark County, is working hard to tackle the affordable housing issue facing so many in their community and beyond.
She says they’re trying to influence housing attainability.
The Municipality has a housing first pilot in the works in partnership with Carebridge to explore building affordable units.
They already have an exemption in place for development charges for non-profit housing in place and are working to improve it so those providers can be more successful.
The Mayor also notes that they are also working on zoning by-laws to encourage builders to create more, much-needed rental units in their communities.
