The Planet Youth Lanark County committee that’s bringing the globally known Icelandic substance abuse prevention model here has completed its first student survey.
The practice has been to let communities around the world using the model, decide on substance use prevention actions after getting valuable data from the surveys.
The group’s David Somppi notes that it isn’t a quick fix.
In the program’s home country of Iceland, their process took 20 years to move from the highest rates of use in Europe to the lowest.
