The Perth waste-water site won't see an expansion.
A proposal to expand Perth’s waste water treatment was turned down on Tuesday night due to cost overruns.
Perth treasurer Brian Burns recommended council defeat the motion to fund a fifth cell for the town’s sewage lagoon due to substantial cost overages from the bidding contractors.
The $1.5M project was to receive an approved $1M grant from the province, a dollar amount Deputy Mayor Ed McPherson didn’t want to leave on the table.
He wanted staff to contact the granting authorities to see if the monies could be used for other projects.
A motion to direct staff to make such inquiries was passed.
