The cut to provincial gas tax takes effect today.
Premier Doug Ford’s Government passed legislation this past spring to make the move.
It means we’ll be paying 5.7 cents less per litre for gas, and 5.3 cents per litre for diesel.
Industry watchers also say we can expect to see a price drop due to current market conditions.
The temporary reprieve last from today until December 31st.
Experts say it may offer some relief to drivers facing sky-high prices at the pump, although the long-term benefits may be more unpredictable.
We have early reports this morning of gas in the $1.90 per litre price range. While that’s better than the more than $2.00 we’ve been paying in recent months its still much higher than what we used to consider normal.
Last summer prices ranged from about $1.25 to $1.35 per litre.
