Could have been worse: Boat burns in Rideau Lakes, captain and his dog are going to be okay

Leeds County OPP responded to a boat fire over the weekend in the Rideau Ferry area.

The captain suffered minor burns and made it to shore before the boat sank.

His dog made it out too. They had just been out for a leisurely ride on the water when the fire started.

Once the alarm went off on the boat, the captain tried to put it out, but just couldn’t.

The 30ft vessel was destroyed in the blaze.  The cause is unknown at this point, but isn’t thought to be suspicious.

The Ministry of the Environment is following up and working on the cleanup. A lot of the gas burned up in the fire. The boat will be removed from the water.
