Lanark County Council has a new Disconnecting from Work Policy.
It’s a result of a provincial bill that requires employers to set a policy about connecting to work after hours.
Human Resources Supervisor Sam Leroux says the goal is to encourage all employees to disconnect from job duties and work-related communication when they are not scheduled to work. Exceptions are made for staff who are on call.
Leroux says there’s no direct financial impact related to the policy, but there may be indirect financial savings when employees practice a healthy balance of work, family and personal responsibilities, through higher employee engagement, improved job satisfaction and reduced sick time.
