The health unit is reflecting on Injury Prevention Day, which passed on July 5th to make some recommendations as many in the region get ready to take to the water this weekend.
Public Health Nurse Tori Welk says people with kids can’t lose focus.
She says they want to make sure boaters have the most basic piece of safety equipment – including life jackets.
The OPP has reported recently that most fatalities in the water have come because people haven’t been wearing them.
And the Public Health Nurse says possessing certain skills can provide a big advantage.
She says prevention and preparation can make for a safe and enjoyable time on the water.
