The World Health Organization declared the Monkeypox virus a global health emergency.
We got an update on the local situation from Leeds Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Paula Stewart.
She says Public Health Ontario has issued a report saying that transmission happens when people come into contact with the lesions on the skin that form after contracting the virus.
She says it’s very different from COVID.
So far there are outbreaks declared in 74 countries.
