For the first time in six years, Smiths Falls’ Brooke Henderson is a major champion.
She won the Evian Championship in France yesterday by one stroke, and says she had to re-focus at home after a rocky start to the season.
“I worked a lot with my sister and my dad, who is my coach,” she told her media availability after the win. “I think also just spending some time with my mom back home really helped gained some perspective and kind of put my head in the right place so I could come back out here on tour and compete,” she added.
Brooke says that mindset if what has allowed the former SFDCI and CHIMO elementary student to have such a good season.
After a rocky start, Brooke has won twice this year and finished in the top 10 seven times. “To have two victories within a couple of months of each other is really exciting,” she said. “Hopefully I can continue that momentum moving forward.”
Brooke now has 12 career victories on the LPGA tour, which is more pro victories than any other golfer in Canada, male or female.
Her first major championship was at the Women’s PGA Championship in 2016.
