The Town of Carleton Place celebrated 30 years of twinning with the city of Comrie, Scotland Yesterday.
The twinning has cemented numerous friendships involving residents of both communities over the course of three decades.
Twinning Committee Chair Jeff Maguire says that’s what its all about.
The twinning is no random selection as there is a historical connection between Carleton Place and Comrie.
Many of the first settlers of Morphy’s Falls (which later became Carleton Place) and Beckwith Township emigrated from Scotland and specifically Perthshire early in the 19th Century.
Maguire says the pairing just makes sense.
They marked the anniversary yesterday with a special zoom call and other celebrations in both locales.
Former Carleton Place Mayor Steve Peckett marked the beginning of the linkage during an official ceremony held in St. James Park, in 1992.
