The town of Smiths Falls is shortening the time you’ll see campaign signs around town this municipal election season.
A by-law amendment proposed by councillor Chris McGuire and co-signed by his colleagues will prevent any campaign signs being put up prior to Labour Day.
Previously, they were allowed to be put up the day after candidacy declarations were closed.
Councilor Niki Dwyer says managing these signs can be a job on its own.
McGuire says these changes are about reduction.
In addition to the Labour Day start date, campaign signs cannot be placed on municipal property unless your road allowance is directly adjacent to residential properties.
Council’s also reconsidering how fines and fees are handled for not removing your signs in a timely manner following the election.
