There were some tense moments yesterday, twice, in Carleton Place as firefighters were called out to the Bridge St. Construction site to deal with two gas leaks.
A construction crew hit a gas line Tuesday morning as the continued the revitalization work on the downtown core. Enbridge capped it off and work continued.
Firefighters stayed on the scene for a while as a precaution.
Then a crew hit another line in the afternoon.
The downtown area was evacuated as witnesses on scene described the smell and that a hissing sound could be heard coming from the damaged line.
Enbridge showed up again and started repair work shortly after it was reported.
After the second leak was repaired, firefighters tested carbon monoxide levels before sounding the all clear for people to return home and to their businesses.
