Carleton Place Mayor Doug Black says he wants to see a strategy in place to ensure that closures like the one that happened at his town’s emergency department this weekend don’t happen again.
The Emergency Department at the Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital has since re-opened.
Black says he has put some pressure on new Lanark-Frontenac Kingston MPP John Jordan, to get the newly re-elected Doug Ford Tories to act.
His voice joins a chorus in the area formed by Perth Mayor John Fenik who rang the alarm with the province when his ER announced it had to close due to staffing and a COVID outbreak.
Perth’s department was closed for nearly three weeks in a move that Fenik deemed unacceptable several times.
The request for provincial action echoes what we’re hearing from local hospitals too. Administration says the staffing issue will not be solved within their walls alone.
