The municipality of Mississippi Mills and Carebridge Community Support have a memorandum of understanding to partner on a Housing First Pilot Project, which would build 10 new affordable housing units in Almonte.
Carebridge gets the land at the site and the municipality will work with them to secure grants to make it happen. Mayor Christa Lowry tells us that won’t be overnight, but she is confident.
The land will be transferred at a reduced rate of $1 once Carebridge has secured the necessary funding and approvals for the construction of a minimum of 10 affordable housing units.
Lowry is aware that when announcements come along, people question just how affordable the housing will be.
When Carebridge says it will be affordable, you can bank on that.
They have been providing affordable housing in our region since 1987 when they first built 12 units, also in Almonte.
Today they manage 187 units across Lanark County and have two geared-to-income housing projects underway in Smiths Falls.
