Lanark County is making a change with how they approach traditional work weeks.
The corporate services committee accepted staff’s recommendation to implement a four-day work week scheduling option for select employees.
The county is updating their alternate work arrangement policy to allow certain employees to work their normal scheduled hours in eight days instead of the standard 10 within the same pay period.
This model applies to non-union and OPSEU staff only. CUPE employees and those in public works are ineligible.
County Warden John Fenik feels four workdays or five makes no difference so long as the job’s done.
Councilor Sean Redmond says this is a progressive model that could be a significant recruitment tool.
The workdays staff take off must remain the same and both days cannot be taken in the same week.
County staff have had flex time options and a bi-weekly 4-day work week option before this, which remain in place.
