As you drive around Lanark County today you’ll notice flags are at half-staff to honour Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth III.
Perth, Smiths Falls, and Carleton Place all released statements after her death.
Perth Mayor John Fenik said, “It is with great sadness that I learned of the Queens passing. She was an amazing sovereign serving without pause for over seventy years. As Mayor of the Town of Perth and Warden of Lanark County my prayers and thoughts are with the royal family.”
The Town of Smiths Falls says flags on municipal buildings will will be flown at half-staff until sunset on the day of the Monarch’s funeral. The town has also announced that a book of condolence will be open for condolences starting Friday morning at 10am at Town Hall.
Smiths Falls Mayor Shawn Pankow released a statement which reads in part, “She was the constant, dutiful and steadfast presence the world could rely on when it needed it the most.”
Like Perth and Smiths Falls, the Town of Carleton Place issued a statement from their Mayor after the passing of the monarch was announced.
Mayor Doug Black wrote, “She has been the only sovereign many of us have known and has represented such a stable institution serving Canadians so well.” He added, “It is a sad day as she truly was a remarkable individual.”
Flags in the town are also flying at half-staff.
