Beckwith’s Fire Chief, Bill McGonegal has retired from the fire department after nearly five decades of serving his community with bravery and dedication.
All tolled, McGonegal has been with the department for 47 years. That includes almost two decades as chief.
Beckwith’s Fire Department was founded in 1964.
Reeve Richard Kidd told Inside Ottawa Valley that McGonegal a pleasure to work with, telling the paper, “During his 19 years as chief, he brought stability to the fire department.” He added, “I want to thank him for his 47 years of service to the community.”
McGonegal calls the move to retirement bittersweet, and promises himself he will keep busy.
