It appears there’s not let-up of the pressure on both sites of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital.
We told you earlier this week about systemic issues that have led to longer wait times in their Emergency Departments, and a long wait for beds for admitted patients.
They were over capacity with admitted patients forced to use beds in the Emergency Departments.
The Hospital now says its seeing a spike in COVID-19 cases in their patient population.
That has done nothing but add to the pressure of the situation. The hospital says they have people occupying beds that should be in long-term care, but spaces there just aren’t available.
The messaging is the same as earlier this week, if you have to go to the ER you can expect a long wait.
If you’re dealing with a life-threatening situation or critical injury, please go right away or call 9-1-1 and get a paramedic to take you. Cases are still being prioritized as they come in.
