Mayor Doug Black received the first poppy in Carleton Place from Royal Canadian Legion Branch 192 President and Veteran, Peter Schaffer.
For the first time in its rich history, the Royal Canadian Legion’s Poppy Campaign for Remembrance Day features biodegradable poppies.
Right now they’re mixing in the old stock, but expect to be using only the biodegradable versions made of materials like paper, cotton, and bamboo, exclusively in a couple of years.
Wreaths and Crosses offered by the vet’s group are also biodegradable.
Bruce Julian, the President of the Legion says they’re please to have been able to reduce their environmental footprint with the beautiful biodegradable symbols of remembrance.
