Hundreds of education workers from around the region have gathered near Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston MPP John Jordan’s office in Smiths Falls to protest his government’s legislation imposing a new contract and making strike action illegal.
As Educational Assistant Angela Parks-Gibson tells us she and her fellow union members are protesting by choice.
The EA with more than 20-years experience says their message to Education Minister Stephen Lecce, Premier Doug Ford and their government is simple.
Another EA at the protest/strike, Angie Thomas told us the action is for both the workers and students.
Both Parks-Gibson and Thomas say they know that being out of school is hard on students, and their parents. Parks Gibson understands but felt today had to happen.
Those sentiments were echoed by Thomas who adds she hopes they won’t be out of school for long.
Lake 88 News Director Bob Perreault was among them and joined Dave White to set the scene.
