The towns of Smiths Falls and Perth are entering an agreement which will see Perth provide inspection services for Smiths Falls for one year.
This fills a hole Smiths Falls has tried to fill since the departure of the previous building inspector this past July, which led to the termination of the shared service agreement between the town and Merrickville-Wolford.
Smiths Falls Fire Chief Rick Chesebrough says this is something that cannot wait.
The need for a partnership comes as hiring efforts for the town’s own building inspector proved fruitless.
Smiths Falls will be covering the hourly rate, travel expenses, and incidental charges of inspector Steven Leroux, who’s scheduled to work 20 hours per week for the town.
The agreement begins next month and will expire in December 2023, when both towns will review the partnership and discuss a possible renewal.
