In the final presentation made to the Corporate Services Committee, Lanark County Paramedic Services Chief Travis Mellema outlined a third quarter summary of calls the EMS team have responded to.
Mellema says they’re spending more time with boots on the ground outside of the county than ever before.
Last year the county paramedics responded to 331 calls in Ottawa, compared to 1241 to date. Frontenac has seen them attend 105 calls so far in comparison to 53 in 2021.
By comparison, calls in Lanark County which were responded by outside services from January to September this year has decreased by 26, from 330 to 304.
Mellema says they’re exploring a solution to get their paramedics back that’s being implemented by other area services.
LCPS responded to an additional 802 life-threatening calls from January to September this year compared to last in the same time frame, and 232 total calls overall.
The top three reasons for a 911 call were trouble breathing, falls, and unknown emergencies.
77% of overall calls for service were from people over the age of 51.
