The new Council for the Township of Rideau Lakes was sworn in at their inaugural event held at the Ronald E Holman Municipal Complex in South Elmsley on November 15th.
The new Council will serve under the leadership of returning Mayor, Arie Hoognboom, for the 2022-2026 term following elections in October. Returning Councillors include Jeff Banks, Joan Delaney, Cathy Livingston, Marcia Maxwell, Ron Pollard; and are joined by newly elected Councillors Linda Carr, Sue Dunfield, and Deborah Anne Hutchings.
The ceremonies were witnessed by approximately 40 members of the public, including a number of Grade 10 Civics students from Rideau District High School, who joined at the special invitation of the Mayor (pictured).
The work of the new Council will get underway quickly, with major decisions on key files expected over their November and December meetings. Setting the 2023 budget will also be an early item on their docket.
