At Tuesday evening’s committee of the whole meeting for Carleton Place council, a public meeting was convened to review details of a proposal by Lepine Apartments for a new residential complex on Coleman Street.
Lepine Apartments is requesting relief from the town’s development regulations for their 3 four-storey building complex which will be home to 227 rental units.
They wish to increase the allowed density to 92 units per hectare, a figure almost equal to their existing buildings across the street known as Johanne’s Court.
Councillor Jeff Atkinson expressed concerns with one of the buildings which will back onto existing low density housing and a future public park. He was also questioning traffic impacts as well as pedestrians crossing Coleman to retail facilities.
The town’s director of development services, Niki Dwyer indicated that all public comments will be forwarded to the builder and the application will come back for further discussion at future meetings.
