Smiths Falls is moving ahead with the third phase of its town hall renovations.
They have awarded a tender for the work to Brawn Construction and Director of Community Services Art Manhire said the price of doing business has gone up.
The tender was awarded at just over $2.5 million, about $600,000 more than what was budgeted. Council is using reserve funding to cover the difference, and staff is meeting with them to find effective cost cuts.
Councillor Lorraine Allen said last week these renos will also help the buildings accessibility.
Phase 3 renovations will cover the remainder of the renovations which include the first-floor administration offices, second floor council meeting rooms and Council Chambers.
