Smiths Falls is in the early stages of crafting an Affordable Housing Community Improvement Plan.
They awarded Dillion Consulting the contract.
As part of their application, the firm outlined some ways to identify the most immediate needs including interviewing stakeholders, as Smiths Falls senior planner Karl Grenke explained.
The town identified housing as the first priority of the existing strategic plan.
The hope is to have the plan completed by November this year, which CAO Malcom Morris said is easier said than done.
The creation of an affordable housing CIP came from a host of recommendations made by the town’s Housing Task Force in December 2020.
