It looks like Smiths Falls will be implementing development charges for the first time.
Development charges help pay for capital infrastructure and other municipal services.
Mayor Shawn Pankow said the funding to pay for growth must come from somewhere.
Councillor Chris McGuire was really reassured by the idea after a local developer backed it in a recent public meeting.
This has been in the works for quite some time and all signs are pointing towards the bylaw passing through council in March, and it would come into effect June 1st.
The estimated revenue for the town from DCs at the current rates is $6.5 million over the next 10 years.
