The province is providing $175,000 to Smiths Falls over two years to address sewage concerns.
The town was eligible for the funding because they’ve had the largest amount of combined sewer overflow discharge events reported from 2015-19, with 52.
This isn’t the type of funding they’re happy to meet eligibility for, said councilor Niki Dwyer.
The funding is to be used to enhance the town’s monitoring and reporting of sewage overflows and bypasses.
Public Works Director Paul McMunn says their existing infrastructure is waning.
The town will receive $175,000 directed at improving the town’s monitoring and public reporting of these events.
