The Perth chapter of the Canadian Federation of University Women welcomed a full slate of speakers covering various aspects of the current opioid crisis to the legion last night.
The well-attended meeting drew nearly 100 participants.
Invited speakers included OPP Staff Sgt Chris Dobler, Sudbury social worker Amber Fritz, and Carleton Place resident David Somppi, chair of that town’s drug strategy committee and the county’s Planet Youth initiative.
The three provided unique viewpoints on the problems and potential solutions ranging from harm reduction to law enforcement to substance abuse prevention.
With the rising number of area opioid overdoses and related deaths, the consensus of the evening was that immediate action was needed as well as long-term supports.
