Independent M-P-P Randy Hillier was released from custody yesterday after a bail hearing in Ottawa.
The LFK MPP called the nine charges laid against him related to the Freedom Convoy truckers’ occupation of downtown Ottawa part of a “disturbing trend.”
The 64-year-old M-P-P from the Kingston area says it appears differing and dissenting views are now criminal.
Police conducted an extensive investigation into Hillier’s activity during the occupation before laying serious charges against the known anti-mandate activist, including two counts of obstructing or resisting a public officer and one count of assaulting a peace or public officer.
Hillier says he has no idea what led to the assault charge.
None of the charges against him have been proven. He will be back in court at a later date to answer to them.
