A long overdue revamping of the fire aid agreement between Smiths Falls and Rideau Lakes is being put in motion.
The existing agreement sees Smiths Falls attend calls in the former Town of South Elmsley region. The deal was reached in 1990 and has been subsequently renewed.
Smiths Falls Fire Chief Rick Chesebrough says they get a fair number of calls to the locale each year.
Chesebrough says one of the requirements includes sending a minimum of three apparatus and 10 firefighters to every call, no matter its severity and that leaves Smiths Falls exposed.
Staff from both townships will now discuss a new agreement which works for each party.
