The Leeds Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit says as the spring arrives, we need to be wary of animals and bites as we spend time outdoors.
Senior Public Health Inspector Kim McCann tells Lake 88 they deal with the issue every year – in surprisingly large numbers.
If you or a someone you’re with gets bitten, let the health unit know.
For each animal bite a Public Health Inspector will conduct a risk assessment to determine the risk of rabies.
If the risk of rabies cannot be ruled out the Health Unit will coordinate with the victim’s health care providers to ensure proper follow up treatment is provided.
