Rideau Lakes Mayor Arie Hoogenboom says his township’s budget has many components.
The 2022 budget comes in just over $20 million, with $5 million invested in maintaining and improving capital assets, such as roads and facilities.
Hoogenboom says it includes a number of projects.
Hoogenboom tells Lake 88 completing the budget this year was not without its challenges.
The Mayor says Rideau Lakes Council limited the local tax rate increase to 2.69 percent and when combined with the County and Education rates, it results in a combined tax rate increase of 2.17 percent.
Major road work includes paving Plum Hollow Road, Summers Road, Lower Beverly Lake Park Road and a portion of Harts Gravel Road. These roads had their bases reconstructed in 2021 and are now ready to be surfaced.
Roads that will receive a single (maintenance) surface treatment include: Townline Road, with the section from CR29 to Morningside gaining a double surface, Youngs Hill Road, 9th Concession Rd, Mahon Road, Frayn Road and Forresters Landing Drive.
2022 will continue to see an enhanced gravel road stone application schedule. the Township moved from a 2-5 year cycle to a 2-3 year cycle during this term of Council.
Projects to improve and rehabilitate drainage networks are planned for Ford Crescent and Kingston Street, Elgin.
