Google Maps: The Confederation Bridge in June 2014
Smiths Falls council is done putting more money into the old, closed, Confederation Bridge.
A report came to Committee of the Whole suggesting a $30,000 structural inspection take place of the bridge built in 1904.
As Councillor Wendy Alford outlined, council unanimously agreed there was no need.
Councillor Chris McGuire echoed the thoughts of everyone at the table, that being to let go.
The bridge has been closed since 2015 due to its severe deterioration, and last saw a major rehabilitation in 1984.
The expected next steps will be to decide how to replace the bridge, including possibly cloning it the bridge to meet the original historical standards, but with modern safety measures for vehicle and/or pedestrian passage.
