The first annual year-end business report has been presented to Smiths Falls council.
It shows some positive trends coming out of a difficult time for businesses in 2021.
Manager of Economic Development & Tourism Julia Crowder explained the playing field continues to grow.
Only 85 of 304 businesses responded to the survey, but Crowder anticipates higher participation numbers as the report becomes more established.
44 of those business owners said they’ll be seeking more full-time employees within the next year. Mayor Shawn Pankow said that’s exciting but could also be a challenge.
37% of participants stated increased operating costs as a main challenge, and 28% said employment recruitment and retention.
