The hope is to get the flows restored to the Tay Canal (Google Maps)
Perth council is set to allocate some cash in another attempt to fix the Rocky Ramps and improve water flow through the small canal in their heritage downtown.
Some councillors were opposed to spending any more taxpayer funds on the ramps and others felt the town has a responsibility to at least try to fix a broken piece of municipal infrastructure, as Mayor John Fenik put it.
Earlier this year representatives from the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority and Parks Canada told council the watershed feeding the Tay River couldn’t supply the flows required.
A recorded vote was called on the staff proposal to spend almost $147K to repair the ramps in-house.
The motion carried and will now go to full council for approval.
