It’s the May long-weekend and that means the unofficial start of summer as boating season gets underway in lakes, rivers, and of course the Rideau Canal Corridor.
Parks Canada’s Mark Brus, Manager of Operations for the Rideau Canal, tells Lake 88 they still have some pandemic precautions in place, but this time around some are optional.
You are asked to wear masks when inside Parks Canada facilities like washrooms and when paying fees.
And Brus says they can’t wait to welcome boaters for another year.
The Canal Opens today from 9am until 7pm.
Shoulder season hours begin after the holiday Monday, when lock-stations will be operational between 10 and 4 daily.
Parks Canada says that there is high water in stretches of the system and is asking boaters to exercise extreme caution as they navigate the corridor.
