There have been four storm-related deaths in or near our listening area. Officials say overall the death toll from the storm has hit 10 in Ontario and Western Quebec.
Lanark OPP are investigating the death of an 80 year-old woman in Ferguson Falls near the Village of Lanark.
She had been hit by a tree branch. She was taken to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. She’s been identified at Gail Greene.
A 59 year-old man was killed after a tree fell on him at the Canadian Golf and Country Club near Carleton Place also on Saturday.
And two people also died in Greater Madawaska where a state of emergency was declared. A 44 year-old man was killed by a falling tree while details of the second death have not yet been made public.
The damage has brought its own danger too.
Hydro officials and police ask that you don’t go anywhere near fallen power lines. Leave that to the pros.
They also say stay away from trees that have bent over or snapped in half. They could shift at any time causing severe injury or death.
