Hydro poles down in Mississippi Mills, after the powerful storms blew through
Reinforcements are arriving in Lanark, Leeds, and Grenville and in communities across the province still dealing with power outages after Saturday’s devastating storms.
Here’s the latest on the overall situation from Hydro One.
The utility reports that their crews and many from other utilities are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore power.
Province-wide, damage includes over 1,000 broken poles, and just as many downed power lines, along with countless trees and large branches causing power outages.
Locally, fallen trees and limbs account for most of our outages. Some are hard to get to in our rural settings.
That means restoration efforts could still take a few days.
In Ottawa officials say that the power failures they’re dealing with are worse than the Ice Storm. That’s a pretty accurate description for the local situation too.
Hydro One says customers can report their outage by texting 92887 (WATTS), online, through the company’s outage map and app, or by calling 1-800-434-1235.
You can also download the Hydro One app for Android here, or for Apple here.
An estimated time of restoration will be assigned to each outage as damage is assessed.
For safety’s sake, the utility says it is critical to stay at least 10 metres back from a fallen power line, even if it does not appear to be live.
Report it to the police and call Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235.
Our neighbours to the south are here to help! Crews from the US have crossed the border to assist with getting the lights back on. Saturday’s #ONstom caused extensive damage, and we appreciate everyone’s patience. Thank you to the crews for coming! pic.twitter.com/8fNtUmClC9
