Perth council put their final stamp of approval on rehabilitating the rocky ramps in the Tay River to improve flow through the smaller channel when water flows are low.
In a recorded vote, the motion to authorize spending $147K on repairing the ramps was carried 4 to 2 with one Councillor absent.
The consultant from the firm that completed the plans indicated that during higher spring flows only 10% of the water will be directed into the Little Tay canal, but during low summer flows and in drought conditions the split would be almost 50/50 between it and the large channel.
Work is expected to start this October.
A separate motion on a five-year flow monitoring plan was deferred to a future meeting.
