Work continues on the county level to do away with invasive species alongside Lanark County roads.
Wild parsnip and Phragmites are of particular concern, the former the county has been addressing since 2015.
Climate Environmental Coordinator Michella Vala told council they’ll be doing a bulk of the control management by hand this year.
Spot spraying is being reduced by 14% from last year, but the management option still covers more than a quarter of county roads.
Phragmities has been damaging Ontario’s ecosystem for decades, and will be addressed Using a remote-control mower on tracks for wet areas, spading, and select herbicide use, as it’s proven to be the only effective eradication measure at dry sites.
