Smiths Falls council has passed the Right to Disconnect policy to come into compliance with Bill-27, which required employers with 25 or more employees to implement a disconnecting from work policy by June 1st.
The policy focuses on improving staff work-life balance.
Mayor Shawn Pankow said this kind of mandate is long overdue.
Director of Corporate Services/Clerk Kerry Costello says it’s an effort to find work/life balance for everyone.
Costello says this doesn’t restrict employers from contacting staff off-hours or in an emergency, but they should not expect a prompt response.
