Lanark County is reminding local and visiting drivers to please remember to slow down while in construction zones in the county.
There’s a by-law authorizing the director of public works or designate to reduce speed limits within county construction zones as a preventive measure to protect the safety and well-being of workers and motorists alike.
The Highway Traffic Act allows for double-fines to be imposed in the zones when work is underway. That makes it easier for county-municipalities to reduce enforceable speed limits.
You’ll know the zones by the signs marking them.
They ask that in order to make it a safe construction season that you please slow down and take note of the posted speeds in designated zones as they’re different than limits in non-construction zones.
