Smiths Falls and the Downtown Smiths Falls Business Association says their Artscape Parkette project is getting close to $100,000 in funding from the My Main Street Community Activator program.
The plan is to create a downtown greenspace, featuring a large colourful mural on the side of Shoppers Drug Mart on Beckwith Street.
My Main Street is a two-year, $23.25-million investment by the Government of Canada. The program is delivered by the Canadian Urban Institute.
In addition to the mural, the Artscape Parkette project will feature stone elements, green plants, wooden planters, and bench seating,
It also include elements such as new bike rake and a bicycle repair station to support and encourage active transportation initiatives as per the Town’s Active Transportation Plan.
Chair of the Downtown Business Association Karen Burns says the project will create a vibrant public space in the Downtown Core that can bee seen, felt and shared for years to come by both residents and visitors.
