The Township of Rideau Lakes has officially ended their COVID-19 state of emergency declaration which began March 25th 2020 as a result of the then emerging pandemic.
Mayor Arie Hoogenboom sent notice to the province on Monday, and said in a media release the reasoning behind ending the state of emergency is because the diminishing impact COVID-19 is causing on municipal operations.
“I am very pleased we have weathered COVID-19 as a community and corporation with a balanced approach, marked by resilience, patience, and strength. Undoubtedly there were dark times, as individuals and as a community.”
“We were handed an unprecedented situation. As a community, we now move forward with a better appreciation of the power of collective action and what we can accomplish, even under the most trying of circumstances.”
The emergency declaration remained in place primarily to permit Council to continue to meet and conduct the business of the Township remotely, as the Chantry town hall wasn’t large enough to adequately social distance.
Public viewing and participation in Council and Committee meetings will continue on an electronic basis until further notice and masking in Township facilities remains on a voluntary basis as per the provincial guidelines.
