Tornado watch in effect for:
- Plevna – Sharbot Lake – Western Lanark County
- Smiths Falls – Perth – Eastern Lanark County
Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which may produce tornadoes. Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible.
Hazards:
A tornado or two possible
Wind gusts of 90 to 110 km/h
Nickel to ping pong ball size hail
The storms are expected to develop early this afternoon with the potential for quick intensification as they progress eastward. A tornado or two will be possible this afternoon before the threat transitions to primarily wind.
Environment Canada warns this is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.
Should a Tornado form: Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet.
Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can.
As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris.
